Spring-Summer 2006
(March - August)

Spring and summer have been pretty quiet.  Joshua got the all-clear with both his hand and his foot, and we don't have to go back to see the doctor until September (6 months).  Dr. Chhabra is pleased with Joshua's progress, and we'll re-evaluate his hand next time to determine our best course of action.

In May, Joshua got his first set of stitches (I'm afraid it's going to be the first of many...I hope I'm wrong!).  He fell playing and split his chin open on one of the end tables in the living room.  Chris called me at work and told me, and I met the two of them at the doctor's office.  It took 4 stitches to close up his chin.  Joshua wasn't happy about being held down for the stitching, but overall, he was quite the trooper.  The worst part of the whole ordeal was keeping him from playing with the stitches.  The ends stuck out from his chin like a little blue goatee, and he tended to want to play with them.  If you told him not to mess with them, he'd get all offended and start crying.  I think we must have been going through a sensitive phase.

Stitches came out a week later, and he's been going full tilt ever since.  I got to spend the summer at home with him, which I LOVED!  I actually changed jobs and will be working part-time next school year at a local private school (North Cross).  It's going to be really nice to be home with Joshua more (I work till noon every weekday).

Joshua and I headed up to Northern VA in June - I had a conference to attend, and Joshua got to spend time with Grandmom and Grandpop.  Great-Grandpa Ellerbrock even came down from Ohio for a visit.  Joshua did wonderfully, and had a great time with his grandparents and great-grandpa.  Chris came up at the end of the week as did Uncle Paul and "Aunt" Annie.  It was great to have everyone together!

Joshua turned 2 in July - I can't believe he's already two!  He's going to be in college before we know it!  He's such a sweet little thing, and he's got such a great personality!  He's really starting to talk more (we're in speech therapy still), and his words are becoming more clear.  We're also still doing physical and occupational therapy for his hand and foot, and that seems to be going well, too.  I think that if nothing else, it's helping us to not relax too much and let Joshua get "lazy" with his hand and foot (because he is definitely good at "compensating" and finding the easy way out when his little hand or foot poses a problem for him).

In August, we headed back up to Northern VA.  Joshua got to hang out with Grandmom and Grandpop again.  This time, he got to spend a couple of days with them on his own!  Mama and Daddy went to New England for a whirlwind vacation and left Joshua behind with his grandparents.  He had a blast!  He even got in the pool!  Wasn't too keen on getting all the way in, but seemed to enjoy playing in the water on the steps.  I think he's still a little too young to appreciate/understand how a pool works.  I'd really like to take him to the beach, but I don't know if that'll happen this year.  Maybe next year.
